This is a picture that I found on Tumblr and I could not find the photographer that captured it in order to give him/her credit. The reason why I find it inspiring is that it is such a simplistic picture, yet there is an great amount of detail in its elements. The old wall with the chipping plaster and its fading wanes coat; the antique picture frames that are organized but not symmetrical; the empty closet with a few old hangars and old stains; the thick futon mattress with books scattered around; and finally the green and flourishing cactus in the corner. I see an old, well used but seldomly painted apartment with relics and a certain charm that is tied together by a single image of life; the cactus. The picture makes me want to be in that space and experience the detail and antique feeling of the room. The lines in this picture are pretty symmetric which I like a lot as well. Its as if the space gets visited rarely, but the books want to tell me otherwise. I think somewhere I have read that simplicity is beauty at its purest form. I have seen many pictures that are far more simplistic than this but there is a story in the image that is very intriguing. I am quite drawn to this old style and and intricate texture. I like things to be organized and pleasing to the eye, which is represented well in this image.
This is a “Geometric Dichrioc Glass Installation” by an artist named Chris Wood that I thought was a cool inspiration for light/lighting and geometric shapes in photography. First of all, the color in the glass and the way it reflects onto the wall is awesome. It makes me think of stained glass windows or other colored glass and the way that it can shape and effect the light around us. I would really like to experiment with colored filters or stained glass at some point. The other thing about this artwork that really inspired me is the geometric shape it creates. The spiral of colors is unlike anything else I have seen. The artist specifically places all of the pieces of glass to spiral into a circle and also has many of the colors reflecting onto one another creating different shades and rainbows of color throughout the piece. Geometry is something that should be used in photography. Leading lines and circles, like I learned today, are some of the most powerful elements we can use in photography to draw the viewer into the scene and moment represented in the picture. This was more of a color inspiration than anything and I like it a lot.
